Flash Based Websites Suck

Every now and then you come across some webpage that just annoys you to no end. Perhaps for you, this is that annoying website! The site that annoyed me senseless was the BioShock homepage. Flash. Must. Die.

I usually don't like flash based websites to begin with, but this site really annoyed me. If you take a look at the bioshock page you'll notice that it has background sounds and the navigation and text is very small. Why the fuck anyone would want ANY sound on their webpage is beyond me. If you have created a website with sounds on it then you should definitely think about giving up web development. I don't care what its for. People browse the web at 2am and at work. Keep that in mind.

The whole point for me to visit this page was to find out the minimum requirements to play it on my PC. I was unable to find this out at the OFFICIAL homepage. This was the case on both the html version and flash. (Don't even get me started on offering different versions of the same damn content) I don't care how much they paid for it or how pretty it might look. When a visitor can't find what he's looking for then the page is WORTHLESS. In order for me to find out the minimum requirements I had to go to the game's wikipedia entry. How sad is that?

Video game websites are notorious for shitty flash pages that are hard to navigate and read. Maybe kids like that, who knows. But please put an end to it.

amen! flash based websites are horrific. Besides the incredible uses of bandwidth, they are nearly impossible to navigate.
The various internet browser programs out there all have the same basic features, a back and foward button, a refresh button, a stop button. EVERY browser has these things for a reason. These are used to help people navigate. A flash based website basically tells the people that your browser programmer had no idea what he was doing, and those keys are useless. If i make a mistake, or go to a wrong link, i want to be able to use that back button. Flash denies you the ability to do this. You must find a link on the page to take you back to the previous page.
The refresh button is another must have feature. If you navigate 10 pages on a flash based site, and one doesnt load, you cannot hit the refresh button. If you do, you go back to the very first page and have to navigate back to the page that didnt load.
The bottom line is that flash SUCKS. THe latest and greates animation technology should be used for gamers, not websites.
