Directv's new HR 20 can now connect to a PC to stream video / music / and photos. Setting up is very easy, just have windows media player 11 installed and attempt to add a new device. The DTV receiver will eventually pop up :) I am not going into specifics on how to do it because they are already out there. So look at the bottom for useful links.

Initial impressions are good, but not great. The videos wont work because right now it only works with an Intel ViiV box. Future support is supposed to be coming. The dtv network connectivity is the exact same as xbox 360. It took a little while for Vista to detect it. I did this on Vista and it seems like MS is very prepared with Vista and media devices.

So what about video support? For now, I'm guessing that the program TVersity can be configured to work with the Directv Receiver too, just like with 360 to support more codecs. Its just a matter of waiting for the TVersity people to add support.

You obviously cannot play videos from the receiver to the PC for copyright reasons. Its PC to DTV only.

Yes I am, DLink DGL-4300. None what so ever, I have my entire video and music file collection shared and wideopen. Well wide open to anything on my network. Could this be a router issue?

Are you using a router? or what? It will see any files you share. . .

I was wondering if you had any detailed insight into how you where able to accomplish connecting your PC to the HR20.

My PC info:
Vista Ultra x64
ATI Crossfire xtx 1950
4 GB' RAM
2.66 Quad Core
Plenty of HD space

My HR20 has an IP address that I can ping. The H20 is seen by my PC and I've shared my media files (pics, movies, music) however the HR does not see my pc...

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you!
