Most people don't realize that quickpar's performance is dependent on more than just the hard drive. The bottleneck most people wouldn't think about is the memory. You don't even need super expensive low latency memory or high speed either, though I'm sure it does help. What's even more surprising is not the type of memory, but the amount needed for good performance. I went from 1 gig of generic DDR400 memory to 2 gig and the par2 recovery time is at least twice as fast. I tested this on a missing rar with Superman.Returns.NTSC.DVDR-MPTDVD and the results are below.

Of course keep in mind that your hard drive has very much to do with it as well and CPU. My hard drive is model WD1600JS and CPU is an athlon 64 at 2.6gz. Anyone with 1 gig of memory or less, you really should go buy more. Plus you'll end up needing it for windows vista anyway :) So the next time you are waiting to watch a movie because the par2 is taking so long. . . now you know why. :)
