I will show you exactly where spam comes from. With all the recent steps I've taken to prevent spam, I thought what else would be fun. So then it came to me, why not track all the spam attempts on the site and plot where they come from with google maps. If you just want to see the graph, then go right ahead. The new section on spam launches today with google maps being the most fun to look at :) This whole thing sounded a lot easier than it turned out to be. Anyway, it is up and running after a few days of work. I have even added a spam counter that will track the total amount of blog spam comments I get under "blog stats".

You might be asking, but why bother? Well, I haven't seen anyone else plot their spam attempts before, so it seems like a fun thing to look at. Plus, I've been looking for an excuse to try out google maps. So far, none of the spam attempts are from USA ips. Interesting. Perhaps people from the US are using foreign proxies to hide their ip or they are hacked servers? Either way it doesn't really matter. You can even check out the spam.xml list of spams with full details.

I plan to do a lot more things with the spam section. Eventually I will add various graphs like how many spam attempts I get per day, spam activity fluctuation, and how to prevent spam. The last one is probably the most important part. There are plenty of various sites out there that talk about spam and how to prevent it, so I'll try to bring it all together. I am sure I will think of other things as well.

When I get all this spam stuff done, I plan to plot the IPs of the people who click the link in my AIM profile. This will make aimstats really kick ass. :)
