Memorial Day weekend means summer starts! All of the beach stats have been reset. From now on the beach checker will be tracking Central NJ beach weather. Bring on the Bennies. . muahahaha. I won't say the exact town it tracks, but it is close enough to Asbury Park to give you some idea.
Testing beach stats in Clearwater, Florida for the past 35 days produced some surprising results. I thought Florida would have pretty good weather, but this is ridiculous. . .31/35 (83.78%) days you could go to the beach. Fourteen (37.84%) of those beach days were perfect. That leaves ONLY 4 days that you could not go to the beach. Keep in mind, this factors in windy conditions that ruins most beach days. The average beach day wind for Clearwater is only 8 - 10mph. Florida sounds like a dream to me :) Although this was just for the end of April and most of May. Had it been tracking the Summer months. . . .I doubt there would be much change in anything except the temperature which would mean less than perfect beach days.
So lets give a prediction for how NJ beach weather stacks up to Florida. I have a feeling these predictions will be very funny come September. lol. Those of you that live in NJ know that pretty much every day there will be some decent wind. And if there is no wind, expect to see clouds :) I would say for the next 35 days, maybe 20 will be suitable for the beach. I'd expect to see possibly 3 perfect beach days during that time. As for the average wind .. . I have no idea, maybe 10 - 13mph?
What about for the entire summer season? Well, there will be about 95 possible beach days from here on out. So I'll say 65 - 70 will be suitable for the beach. Of those, maybe 20-25 perfect beach days.
Keep in mind, a beach day is decided by the weather conditions at 1PM every day. So if there is just a passing shower at 1, then it will be saved as a bad beach day. This isn't an exact science, but it should give you a very good idea of what your missing (or not missing) while at work :) hehehee
