Cancel Your FreeCreditReport.com Account Without Calling

Here is a handy trick for you guys who got your free creditreport from FreeCreditReport.com and want to cancel your account without being hassled.  You can make them cancel your account, by doing nothing!

The process is simple.  Sign up with the correct information (including a real credit card).  Then after you've signed in, change your credit card info to something that doesn't work.  When your trial period ends and they try to bill you, your credit card won't work and you will get the following email:

FreeCreditReport.com has been helping you safeguard your personal credit information. However, we have been unable to process your monthly membership fee. This might be due to an expired credit card or a credit limit issue. If we continue to be unable to process your membership fee, your account will be cancelled on 01/05/2010 and your credit reports will no longer be monitored. Please take a moment to update your credit card information.

 

After that, they will likely send you an email saying how your credit report has changed and you should take a look.  Sure....
