When it comes to baseball, run differential tends to mean a lot.  It is the total amount of runs scored compared to runs given up.  Ideally, a team should have as high of a run differential as possible.  I have decided to take this a step further and break down run differential in terms of matchups.

Since I am a Yankee fan, lets take a look at the Yankees run differential breakdown at home.

Two things should jump out at you right away.  The first being how badly the Yankees beat up on Seattle and the second is how bad the Mets beat up on us.  Overal, the Yankees are just +13 in the differential at home, which is terrible!  It's even worse considering a majority of their runs came against an awful team.

The verdict?  Even though the Yankees have a +24 run differential (which isn't that good to begin with).  It is even worse when matchups are taken into account.  The Yankees are equally AVERAGE at home and on the road.  Therefore, don't expect them to do anything worthwhile this year unless there is a drastic turnaround.

Please let me know any comments or concerns about this new way to look at run differential.
