IMPORTANT 06/11/2007
An exploit was written for aimstats 3.2 that allowed someone to edit your config file and potentially cause harm to your server. If you have not already done so, download the newest Aimstats Version 3.3 and overwrite your process.php AND admin_include.php files that are contained in the new aimstats.rar archive. Its VERY important. :)
View Demo or Download AimStats 3.3!
Development on AimStats has pretty much stopped. Two reasons for this: 1) AIM 6.0+ doesn't let you add a link with a screen name variable in it anymore. Without that, aimstats is basically useless because you can't see who clicks. 2) My Celebrity Gossip Site takes up most of my time and i love developing for it. I will still help those who have questions and fix bugs that may crop up, but don't expect any new features.
Changelog Version 3.3
New Features
- fixed exploit. I still can't believe someone wrote an exploit for my little program that 3 people use. lol.
FAQ
What is AimStats?
AimStats tracks user clicks from a url in an AOL Instant Messenger profile window. It is written in PHP and uses a mySQL database. The best way to explain what it does is to just show you the demo and be sure to login to see the administrator features.
What AIM clients do you support?
It works with them all, including Classic Aim, Gaim, and Trillian
Why not the new Aim Triton (Aim 6.0)?
The problem is that AOL no longer lets you use the %n variable in the hyperlink. There is nothing I can do about this unless AOL changes their client. So this means that your buddies can't be on Triton to get tracked.
What makes this better than other tracking sites/scripts?
Brand new very easy automated install, all you need is your mysql connection info! It tracks the usual stats ( total clicks, browser+usage percentages, os+usage percentages, date/time, ranking, last visitor) for each user along with a feature called "taglines". When a user clicks on the link "X" amount of times, a form will appear and lets them create their own special message (no html tags allowed) for others to see. Install process creates a great looking site by default to show off your profile stats. CSS is customizable. Script can be easily added to your current webpage. AimStats has the ability to alert you of new user clicks and/or abuse attempts via email notification. This release contains many new features that are listed on the web page but the major features include: Redesigned admin options now handled by Admin Panel with a l/p,new security checks, and ban ips. A working Demo is on the site. Enjoy :)
Is it easy to use?
Yes! All you have to do is make sure you have mysql and php installed on your webserver. It is completely automated! For more information read install.txt
How do i get started?
Search google for "free php/mysql web hosting". http://www.frihost.com/ is one such site. However, I suggest you search first.
I run a profile tracking site already, can I use your code?
No,. This is meant for individual use only and not widespread use by a third party. Any other questions contact me.
What about security?
I did code several security checks. It is not perfect, but it will stop most of the abuse attempts. It is important to note that no matter what, people can cheat if they really wanted to. It was easy to make this more secure back when aol allowed browsing in the profile window. . .but not anymore. Currently, I have not implemented cookies to help authenticate user clicks. This could change in the future. But as of right now I see no reason to go this next step.
Will you update it?
Yes, its fun to tinker with. But there comes a point where there is nothing left to add :)
It doesn't work, what do i do?
You can either IM me on aol or email me. I recently made a fix for the config.php file that works with more versions of PHP and MySQL. So that should alleivate many of the problems.
I can help!
If you know php and want to help out, email me.
